Agent and supervisor recording controls in Webex Contact Center
Verified 2026-09-15 · 38 claims · sources tier 2
Also known as Enable Pause/Resume, Pause Recording, Recording Management portal, Resume Recording.
During a live call, Agent Desktop provides agents with 2 named recording controls: Pause Recording and Resume Recording 9. When an administrator enables call recordings, recording begins automatically without any agent action, and no start or stop controls are available to agents 922.
Agent recording controls
A Record icon indicates that recording is currently in progress, though documentation does not state what an agent sees while a recording is paused 21. An agent-initiated pause is time-boxed by an administrator-configured duration, after which the recording resumes automatically without an option for the agent to extend it 18. The recording schedule field to enable pause and resume accepts a duration in seconds, but publishes no minimum, maximum, or default value 17.
The agent documentation does not specify which permission, profile setting, or role entitles an agent to pause a recording 12. Furthermore, no assigned source states that an agent's pause or resume action is logged, reported, exposed in reporting, or visible to a supervisor 13. The only endpoint caveat noted in the agent article concerns Mute and Keypad controls on physical phones and does not address recording controls 20.
Consultations, conferences, and transfers
Cisco states that the Pause Recording and Resume Recording features do not work during conference and consult calls 19. WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that on the Next Generation media platform, a consult initiated during a recorded call is recorded automatically, with the agent having no recording control over that leg 11. During a consult, the customer call is placed on hold automatically, and the 2 call legs can never both be on hold simultaneously 10.
When initiating a transfer, the Wrap Up Reasons dialog appears immediately for the transferring agent, causing that agent to leave the interaction at the moment the request is made 24. No source in the corpus defines what organization level means for a Webex Contact Center recording setting, and no source names the setting that determines whether recording continues through the reserved state of a blind transfer 16. WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that the strongest candidate for the setting governing recording through a blind transfer is Continue On Transfer, configured in Flow Designer at the tenant, queue, or recording schedule level 15.
Supervisor visibility and controls
No assigned source describes a supervisor starting, stopping, pausing, or resuming a recording 14. A supervisor barge-in updates the conference participant list with the supervisor name, which represents the only supervisor action in the assigned sources that produces a visible indicator for the agent 23.
