Troubleshooting Webex Contact Center API errors

Verified 2026-10-02 · 59 sources · tier 2–5 · 2 disputed

Disputed: 2 sources below carry conflicting evidence.

Webex Contact Center integration access tokens expire in 14 days, refresh tokens expire in 90 days, and REST calls go to region-specific hosts such as api.wxcc-us1.cisco.com 1 24 3. Webex APIs signal rate limiting with HTTP 429 and a Retry-After header, and the Search API returns HTTP 413 when an extFilter query cannot fill its first page from the first 2,500 records in the span 28 34.

Token expiry and 401 responses

An access token obtained through a Webex integration for the Contact Center APIs expires in 14 days 1. The refresh token issued with that access token expires in 90 days 24. Each time the refresh token is used to get a new access token, the refresh token's own expiry timer resets, so an integration that refreshes regularly does not need the user to reauthorize 23.

In the field, practitioners treat a 401 Unauthorized from the WxCC API as the first sign that the access token has expired and should be refreshed 7. WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that an integration that worked and then starts returning 401 about 2 weeks after authorization most likely has an expired access token that was never refreshed 10. We infer that the fix is to refresh the token, or to reauthorize if the refresh token has also lapsed 10.

Sources disagree: an undated Cisco Live lab states that the access token is valid for 12 hours and the refresh token for 60 days by default 14. This is disputed: an independent primer states that access tokens last 12-14 days and refresh tokens last 60-72 days 9.

WxCC API OAuth uses the common Webex endpoints https://webexapis.com/v1/authorize and https://webexapis.com/v1/access_token, not a region-specific host 20. Cisco's WxCC API sample repository states that its samples are for demos and that production integrations need a security-first approach that includes token lifecycle management 30.

A Contact Center Service App cannot obtain tokens until an administrator authorizes it in Control Hub 53. A Service App acts at organization level and can request data for many users across the org, unlike a user-authorized integration 55.

See also Getting started with the Webex Contact Center APIs.

Scopes, roles and 403 responses

Cisco advises selecting only the minimal set of scopes the Contact Center integration needs, such as cjp:config, cjp:config_read or cjp:user 16. Cisco's Postman tech note requests the scope string cjp:config cjp:config_read cjp:config_write for WxCC configuration API access 22. The WxCC Subscriptions API requires the cjp:config_read or cjp:config_write scope 50.

Registering WxCC webhooks requires an admin-type token with cjp:config or cjp:config_read 58. The Subscribe Notification WebSocket alternative works with an agent token that holds cjp:user 58. Contact Center Service Apps may request any integration scope their use case needs except spark:applications_token and spark:kms 54.

We infer that a WxCC 403 returned with a fresh token most likely means the token lacks a required scope, such as cjp:config_read or cjp:config_write, the authorizing user lacks the needed admin or supervisor role, or the request targets an orgId other than the token's org 13.

Organization ID format

The Webex Contact Center orgId can be read from the access token string, where it follows the final underscore 18. Webex platform API IDs are Base64 encoded and decode to a form like ciscospark://us/TYPE/ 56. WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that passing a Base64 Webex platform organization ID where a WxCC API expects the raw org UUID is a plausible cause of 403 or 404 responses 17. We infer that the raw org UUID is the form found at the end of the access token 17.

Region hosts and 404 responses

Webex Contact Center tenants are identified by region codes us1 (North America), ca1 (Canada), eu1 (UK), eu2 (EU), anz1 (APJC), jp1 (Japan) and sg1 (Singapore) 25.

REST calls for a US1 tenant are made against the host api.wxcc-us1.cisco.com, which carries the region code in the hostname 3. Cisco's Postman tech note has the user set a datacenter variable and the tenant org_id before calling WxCC APIs 21. The datacenter variable is us1 for ProdUS1, eu1 or eu2 for ProdEU1 or ProdEU2, and anz1 for ProdANZ1 21.

A Cisco Live WxCC lab identifies rest.wxcc-us1.cisco.com/aws/api/{record-type} as the legacy V1.0 endpoint, distinct from the newer api.wxcc-us1.cisco.com APIs 15.

WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that a valid token sent to a host for a different region than the tenant's is a likely cause of 404 or empty results 59. This is inferred from resource hosts embedding the tenant region while OAuth is global 59. We infer that the tenant region should be confirmed before debugging further 59.

Contact center developer documentation lives in the converged developer.webex.com portal, with a single login shared with Webex Suite APIs 19.

Rate limiting and 429 responses

When a Webex API returns HTTP 429, the Retry-After response header gives the number of seconds the client must wait before sending requests again 28. Cisco's guidance is to honor the Retry-After value as soon as the first 429 arrives, rather than continuing to send requests, to avoid cascading failures 26.

Cisco does not publish fixed Webex API rate limits in this guidance 27. The limits vary with the call made, how resource-intensive it is and how many servers are in routing, and they are subject to change 27.

Field reports suggest that exceeding WxCC API limits produces 429 Too Many Requests with a retry-after header 8. WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that clients of the WxCC REST and Search APIs should apply the same back-off pattern on 429: wait for Retry-After when it is present, and otherwise back off 29.

Search API limits and 413 responses

The Webex Contact Center Search API is a GraphQL-powered REST API that exposes historical and real-time raw data 39.

  • The span between from and to should not exceed 13 months for any query 33.
  • The span cannot exceed 30 days when fetching raw Customer Activity Record (CAR) or Agent Activity Record (AAR) data 36.
  • A raw-data query that uses extFilter returns HTTP 413 if the first page cannot be filled from the first 2,500 records in the span 34.
  • The total number of arguments across filters, extFilter and predicates in a single query is capped at a default of 1,000 31.
  • An aggregation query may group by at most 10 fields 40.
  • Raw-data pages return 250 records for taskDetails and agentSession and 500 for taskLegDetails, and aggregation pages return 1,000 42.
  • Paginated raw fetches of taskDetails and taskLegDetails are capped at 100,000 records in total 32.

Search API pagination is cursor-based 37. The response returns hasNextPage and endCursor, and the next page is requested with that cursor 37.

Cisco recommends sending a TrackingId header containing a valid UUID with each Search API request 44. Cisco advises against repeatedly querying the same time intervals in quick succession, because it causes redundant processing 35. Cisco recommends the taskDetails query over the older task query, and the aggregations argument over the older, more limited aggregation argument 43.

The /search API is not designed for bulk data export use cases 41.

See also Webex Contact Center system limits reference.

Webhook and subscription delivery problems

WxCC webhook subscriptions are created by a POST to the /v2/subscriptions endpoint on the regional api.wxcc host 52. A subscription request body carries a name, the subscribed event types, the orgId, a resource version and the destination URL that receives deliveries 49.

Agent webhooks fire on Agent Login, Agent Logout and Agent State Change 2. The capture:available event fires when a new recording is available 4. Its payload carries the taskId and a link to download the recording 4.

Webex platform webhooks stay active until they are removed or until enough delivery errors occur for Webex to mark them disabled, for example 100 failed attempts within 5 minutes 57. We infer that when a WxCC subscription stops delivering, the first checks are whether the destination URL still answers deliveries with a 2xx and whether the subscription still exists and is enabled 51.

See also Webex Contact Center APIs and webhooks.

Flow Designer HTTP connector

Webex Contact Center API calls made from Flow Designer through the HTTP connector are rate limited, and flows should handle 429 responses gracefully 12. Cisco recommends routing the HTTP connector result through a Case activity that handles every error code listed in the API definition 11.

The connector handles authentication tokens natively, which removes the need for a separate token server that stores and refreshes integration tokens 5. The flow author supplies only the API path, and the connector supplies the rest of the URL 6.

When a flow calls the Search API, limit the time range to a few hours or at most a few days 38. Multi-month queries inside an active call flow are not recommended 38.

See also Calling an external API from a Webex Contact Center flow.

Applicability

The US1 host example in this article is api.wxcc-us1.cisco.com 3. The legacy V1.0 endpoint comes from an undated Cisco Live lab and is given only for US1 15. Since May 2025 Webex Contact Center developer documentation lives in the converged developer.webex.com portal with a single login shared with Webex Suite APIs 19. Applies to: Cisco Webex APIs and Cisco Webex Contact Center. Deployments: multi-tenant. Sources checked 2026-10-02.

What remains uncertain

Cisco does not publish fixed Webex API rate limits in its rate-limiting guidance 27. Published WxCC API rate limits per endpoint are not covered by the sources below.

Field reports suggest that WxCC 429 responses carry a retry-after header 8. WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that no WxCC-specific page confirms that WxCC 429 responses carry Retry-After 29.

We infer that WxCC subscriptions may be disabled after repeated delivery failures, as Webex platform webhooks are 51. The actual delivery failure and auto-disable behaviour of WxCC v2 subscriptions is not covered by the sources below.

The content of a WxCC common API errors page is not covered by the sources below.

The Search API returns HTTP 413 for extFilter queries that cannot fill their first page 34. Beyond that case, the Search API's GraphQL error response shape and status codes are not covered by the sources below.

The Search API's 13-month limit on the span between from and to is documented 33. Any separate limit on how far in the past from may reach is not covered by the sources below.

The region codes ca1, jp1 and sg1 are listed for WxCC tenants 25. A vendor list of the API hosts for those regions is not covered by the sources below.

Causes of 403 responses for partner admins and multi-org tokens are not covered by the sources below.

Sources disagree on default token lifetimes 14 9. Verify the current access and refresh token lifetimes against the stated 14-day and 90-day values 1 24.
