Genesys Cloud licensing

Verified 2026-10-01 · 60 sources · tier 2

Also known as genesys-cloud-cx-licensing, genesys-cloud-pricing.

Genesys Cloud documents 3 user licensing models: named, concurrent, and hourly 55. The Genesys Cloud CX 1, CX 2, CX 3, and CX 4 tiers can each be licensed under either the named or concurrent model 32.

Core User Licensing Models

Genesys Cloud does not support mixing named and concurrent users for Genesys Cloud contact center within an organization's subscription 53. Base seat prices for CX 1 to CX 4 are not listed on the Genesys Cloud pricing hub, which points readers to the separate Genesys Cloud Pricing Guide for per-license capabilities, add-on choices, and pricing options 19. Communicate functionality is included at no extra cost across CX 1, CX 2, CX 3, and CX 4 licenses 26. Digital channels or advanced workforce engagement can be added to only a subset of users within CX 1 or CX 2 1.

Under the named model, any user who logs in during the billing period counts as a billable named user regardless of login duration 49. Named users are billed at the highest user-type license assigned to them at any point during that billing period 50. WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that temporarily assigning a higher CX tier to a named user for even 1 day likely bills that user at the higher tier for the entire billing period 54. Named-user bill reconciliation relies on the Billable Usage report, the People page for current license assignments, and the Agent Status Detail view or User Status Detail API for login timestamps 52.

Under the concurrent model, Genesys charges for the peak number of simultaneously logged-in users during the billing period 30. Concurrency peaks shorter than 30 minutes are disregarded to accommodate shift changes 28. Concurrent peaks are calculated separately for each Genesys Cloud organization and are not calculated across multiple organizations 31. Concurrent charges reflect the highest CX license level (CX 1 to CX 4) assigned to the concurrent users during the billing period 29.

Two hourly variants are documented: an Hourly Interacting model and an Hourly Logged In model 47. Contracts billed at an hourly rate for total logged-in time apply to CX 1 to CX 4 named and concurrent offers 46. Hourly Interacting is intended for use alongside a general named or concurrent subscription rather than as a standalone subscription 42. Under Hourly Interacting, time is metered while a user's Routing Status is Communicating or Interacting 45. Held interactions accrue charges while Routing Status is Communicating or Interacting, whereas parked interactions do not 44. Administrative and supervisory users are automatically excluded from Hourly Interacting metering 41. Hourly Interacting is compatible with CX 1 to CX 4, Digital add-ons, WEM add-ons, and the Work Automation add-on 43.

User Overages

Fair use allowances do not apply to Genesys Cloud users, and counts above contract are billed as overage 57. Billable overage users equal actual users minus contracted users for the billing period 59. If more users log in than the purchased named licenses, overage charges apply 51. Overage users are charged at the per-user rate set in the customer's services order under On-Demand Subscription Pricing 60. User overage is billed in arrears while prepaid subscriptions are billed ahead, which can cause overage invoice service dates to span multiple months 58.

AI Experience Token Licensing

Genesys provides a legacy per-agent Genesys Cloud AI Experience bundle alongside its token-based model 7. Under token pricing, an organization on the named model receives a fair use allowance of 250 AI Experience tokens per month 9. An organization on the concurrent model receives 350 AI Experience tokens per month 5. Token fair use allowances apply per organization rather than per license 4. Allowances renew monthly without carryover for unused tokens 10.

Organizations can prepay tokens monthly or annually upfront, billed on invoices as AI Experience Tokens – Prepay at the services-order rate 13. Token usage across a billing cycle is summed and rounded up 14. Token overage beyond fair use plus prepaid tokens is billed monthly in arrears at the published per-token rate across all contract types 11.

Feature or Channel Token Consumption Rate
Voice bot 1 token per 17 minutes 18
Digital bot 1 token per 51 sessions 6
Genesys Virtual Agent 0.5 tokens per interaction 17
Agentic Virtual Agent 1.2 tokens per interaction 3
Agent Copilot 40 tokens per named user, 60 tokens per concurrent user 2
Speech and Text Analytics 30 tokens per named user, 45 tokens per concurrent user 15
Third-party messaging (WhatsApp, Apple Messages for Business, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, X direct messages) 400 messages per token 8
Predictive Routing 1 token per 17 interactions 12

WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that because Agent Copilot and Speech and Text Analytics consume more tokens per concurrent user than per named user, the selection between named and concurrent licensing affects AI token consumption alongside base seat costs 56.

Telephony and BYOC Usage Charges

The fair use policy allocates 5,000 BYOC Cloud minutes per month for each named CX 1 to CX 4 user, and 1,000 minutes for each Communicate user 21. Each concurrent CX 1 to CX 4 user receives an allowance of 6,500 BYOC Cloud minutes per month 20. Monthly fair use allocations pool across all users in the organization, and unused minutes do not roll over to the subsequent month 39. Fair use allocations are calculated based on the greater of actual monthly usage or committed user counts 38.

BYOC Cloud minutes exceeding the fair use allowance cost USD 0.00120 per minute per call traversing a BYOC Cloud trunk, billed in 6-second (1/10 minute) increments 22. BYOC Cloud overage appears under BYOC Cloud in the Core Services and Fees section of the invoice 24. Because the BYOC Cloud per-minute rate displayed on the invoice reflects total overage divided by total usage, it does not match the rate published in the fair use policy or services order 23. BYOC Premises incurs a contracted monthly hardware usage charge once an Edge device enters an In Service state 25.
