Verified 2026-09-25 · 58 sources · tier 2

Also known as CUAC, CUAC Advanced, CUAC Standard, CUACA, Cisco Unified Attendant Console Advanced, Cisco Unified Attendant Console Standard, Webex Attendant Console.

The Cisco Unified Attendant Consoles series currently comprises 2 products: Cisco Unified Attendant Console (CUAC) Advanced and Cisco Unified Attendant Console Standard, with the series release date shown as 02-MAR-2007 49. As of 2026-09-25, Cisco's support pages continue to show the series and CUAC Advanced as available for order 46.

Architecture and Integration

The CUAC Advanced server interfaces with Cisco Unified Communications Manager (UCM) using the Cisco Telephony Service Provider (TSP), which permits selecting between 1 and 10 TSP instances during installation 4. CUAC Advanced connects to UCM via an application user whose credentials are configured in both the CUAC application and the TSP settings 3.

For CUAC Advanced 12.0, the server platform requires Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2016 (64-bit), Microsoft SQL Server 2012, 2014, or 2016, and supports VMware ESXi 5.5, 6.0, and 6.5 17. Operating CUAC Advanced 12.0 requires Cisco Unified Communications Manager 10.x, 11.5(1.13032-4) or later, or 12.0(x) 9. Cisco's server hardening guidelines specify that WMI, the Distributed Transaction Coordinator (used for SQL replication in resilient setups), and the Message Bus on ports 61616 and 61618 must remain enabled 27. In addition, Cisco specifies that SQL Server for CUAC should not be hosted on a domain controller, and 64-bit SQL is unsupported on a 32-bit server 48.

Call Handling and Capacities

Feature Capacity or Specification
Concurrent users per server 50 8
Directory contacts 125,000 8
User speed dials and custom directory groups 500 speed dials; 100 custom groups 8
Queues supported 100 queues with prioritisation 16

Queue overflow triggers based on call volume, operator absence, or wait time thresholds 16. Console operators receive real-time queue metrics encompassing abandoned calls, logged-in operators, and available operators 15. Call control features include call park with park recall, as well as transfer reversion to return unanswered transferred calls back to the operator 12.

CUAC Advanced 12.0 populates its directory via synchronization with Active Directory, Cisco Unified Communications Manager, or iPlanet, while also supporting manual contact updates 10. The console displays presence indications alongside directory entries using Cisco Jabber and Skype for Business 14.

High Availability and Deployment Resilience

Resilient deployments of CUAC Advanced operate as an active/passive pair consisting of a Publisher and a Subscriber 26. The Publisher manages normal operations and system configuration, whereas the Subscriber processes real-time database replication and restricts configuration changes 26. Optional high availability in release 12.0 provides a hot standby server capable of automatic failover 11. However, For CUAC Advanced 11.0.1 to 12.0.2, Cisco does not support Microsoft SQL Express in resilient deployments 47.

The Publisher and Subscriber exchange state information and track failure conditions using Apache ActiveMQ, and both nodes host local BLF and presence server components 24. If the system reports a "Not Available" failover status, Cisco's documented remedy involves stopping the CUAC-A services and ActiveMQ on both nodes, renaming the ActiveMQ kahadb directory, and restarting ActiveMQ followed by the CUAC-A services 25.

Licensing Models and Migration

Classic CUAC licensing binds software activation to an 8-character Registration Code generated from server properties, including the server MAC address, which causes hardware transfers to invalidate the license 34. Licences are activated through www.cisco.com/go/ac using this Registration Code and a 27-character License Activation Code (LAC), returning a registration file that must be installed on the server 32. When server hardware changes yield a new Registration Code, Cisco directs administrators to engage TAC with both the old and new codes to reset the LACs 35. CUAC Advanced 12.0 perpetual licensing mandated 1 license per concurrent operator session, ordered via part numbers L-CUAC12X-ADV or L-CUAC12X-ADV-HA 13.

Cisco announced the end-of-sale and end-of-life for perpetual CUAC licenses on July 15, 2021 40. The end-of-sale date, end of new service attachment, and end of service contract renewals took effect on October 30, 2021 38. Maintenance releases ceased on January 13, 2023, and the last date of support was January 31, 2025 3942. Customers requiring additional licenses, support attachment, or contract renewals past October 30, 2021, are directed to the Collaboration Flex Plan 41.

CUAC Flex 2.0 Enterprise Agreement offers (SKUs A-FLEX-A-AC, A-FLEX-A-HAAC, and A-FLEX-S-AC for 11.x and 12.x) reached end-of-sale and end of change/renewal on January 13, 2022, with support ending on January 31, 2025 2122. Cisco advises migrating Flex 2.0 EA customers to A-FLEX-3 subscriptions using parts A-FLEX-CUAC-A, A-FLEX-CUAC-A-HA, and A-FLEX-CUAC-S 23. Cisco Collaboration Flex Plan Calling data sheet (updated August 30, 2023) lists CUAC Standard and Advanced across Enterprise Agreement and Named User options 19.

For older editions, CUAC Advanced 10.x reached end-of-sale on May 21, 2018, and reached end-of-support on May 31, 2021, listing 12.x SKUs (L-CUAC12X-ADV, L-CUAC12X, and upgrade SKU L-CUAC12ADV-U-AC=) as replacements 12. Upgrades between versions 10.5.x and 11.x involve backing up the ATTCFG and ATTLOG databases, restoring them to the replacement host, and selecting "NO" when prompted to overwrite databases during application installation 36. Not-for-Resale (NFR) participants are directed to move to version 14 or higher 43.

The CUAC Advanced release tree includes 10.0.1, 10.5.x, 11.0.x, 12.0.x (reaching 12.0.6.20), 14.0.1, and 14.0.2, omitting any 13.x release 50. CUAC Standard lists version 14.0.4, published on 07-Jan-2025, as its latest release 31. As of 2026-09-25, Cisco has published no end-of-life notices for 14.x, and its newest English notices are the July and September 2021 Flex 2.0 EA and perpetual-licensing notices 18. WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that because 11.x and 12.x reached end-of-support on January 31, 2025, a supportable on-premises CUAC estate in 2026 is most likely 14.x running under a Flex 3 subscription 28.

Webex Attendant Console Differences

Webex Attendant Console functions as a web-based client matching Webex Calling, the Webex App, or desk endpoints with an operator interface 58. Client hardware requirements state Windows 10 or later or macOS 13 or later, accompanied by at least 4 GB of RAM and 5 GB of disk space 51.

Administration is performed in Control Hub via Services > Calling > Features > Attendant Console 52. The platform requires a dedicated attendant license ordered via CCW as a Webex Calling or Webex Suite add-on, along with a Webex Calling Professional user license 55. Webex Calling Receptionist clients also specifically require a Webex Calling Professional license 45. Embedded Apps must be activated at the organizational tier for the client to be visible within the Webex App 54. Organizations transitioning from trials maintain visibility of the legacy Receptionist Client until billing conversions finish 57.

Webex Attendant Console aggregates contacts from colleagues, designated favourites, call routing resources (queues, hunt groups, auto attendants), personal entries, and external directories including LDAP, BroadWorks, or Cisco Unified Communications Manager 53. Subscribed queue panes present live details for current waiting calls, maximum wait times, and average handle durations 56. WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that available documentation only outlines Webex Attendant Console provisioning for multi-tenant Webex Calling, meaning it cannot be treated as an established like-for-like replacement for CUAC on on-premises UCM or Dedicated Instance environments 29.

Troubleshooting CTI and Port Registration

Cisco's fix for CUAC CTI ports stuck in an unknown or none state after an upgrade includes checking that the installed Cisco TSP version matches the UCM version, reinstalling the TSP if it does not, and restarting the CUAC server 6. A second Cisco fix for unregistered CUAC CTI ports is to delete the synced CTI ports in UCM, re-run CUAC to UCM synchronisation, and check the sync report 5. A third Cisco fix recreates the UCM application user whose credentials go into both CUAC and the TSP configuration and updates both places 3.

Applicability

Applies to: Cisco Unified Attendant Console, Cisco Unified Attendant Console Advanced, Cisco Unified Attendant Consoles, Cisco Unified Attendant Console Standard, Cisco Webex Attendant Console, and Cisco Webex Calling Receptionist Client. Deployments: on-premises, multi-tenant, and dedicated instance. Sources checked 2026-09-25. The CUAC Advanced release tree spans releases 10.0.1 through 14.0.2 50, and the latest CUAC Standard release is 14.0.4 31. Documented CUAC Advanced 12.0 requirements state support for Cisco Unified Communications Manager versions 10.x, 11.5(1.13032-4) or later, and 12.0(x) 9. Cisco documentation Technote 118861, updated May 17, 2018, stops tracking CUAC Advanced compatibility at release 12.0.2 and UCM release 12.0.1, containing no entries for version 14.x 7.

What remains uncertain

Cisco's CUAC to CUCM compatibility technote (118861, updated May 17, 2018) goes no further than CUAC Advanced 12.0.2 and UCM 12.0.1 and has no 14.x rows 7. Tested compatibility matrices between CUAC 14.x releases and specific UCM maintenance releases are not covered by the sources below. Whether classic LAC-based node locking applies to CUAC 14.x under Collaboration Flex 3 is not covered by the sources below.
