Singlewire InformaCast paging with Cisco UC

Singlewire InformaCast provides paging and emergency notification capabilities for Cisco Unified Communications environments 15​7. Depending on the edition and platform deployed, integration options range from no-charge basic live audio paging on Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) to cloud-connected emergency notifications across Webex Calling 15​56​57.

Editions and licensing

InformaCast Basic Paging is offered to Cisco Unified Communications Manager customers at no additional charge 15. Basic Paging delivers live phone-to-phone audio broadcasts to individual Cisco IP phones or to groups of up to 50 phones at once 12. Basic Paging is limited strictly to live audio broadcasts; pre-recorded audio and text messages belong to Advanced Notification 14.

InformaCast Advanced Notification features require purchasing a license key 3. Advanced Notification sends text and live or pre-recorded audio to Cisco IP phones and other endpoints, and integrates with analog or IP overhead paging 7. Singlewire's InformaCast product page lists SIP speakers, IP speakers, and overhead paging systems among the endpoints InformaCast can reach 43. Advanced Notification also includes 911 or emergency call monitoring, alerting, and recording, and can dynamically trigger emergency conference calls 1​2.

Cisco ended the sale of Singlewire InformaCast Advanced perpetual licenses (SP-INFORMACST-50=, -250=, -1K=, and SP-INFORMCST-2500=) on 29 May 2017, with a last ship date of 27 August 2017 4. The 250- and 1000-endpoint InformaCast Advanced perpetual SKUs were replaced by 1-year or 3-year subscriptions, while the 50-endpoint SKU had no replacement 5.

For mobile and hybrid deployments, InformaCast Mobile is a cloud service for iOS and Android devices that must be purchased directly from Singlewire Software 28. In March 2026 Singlewire positioned InformaCast Reach as the hybrid-cloud product for InformaCast Advanced customers to move to, combining on-site paging and bells with mobile notifications 39. Singlewire states that InformaCast Reach, as a cloud-based product, receives feature updates about every six weeks 38.

How it works on Unified CM

InformaCast paging with Unified CM requires the underlying network to be configured for multicast 36. A live broadcast starts when a user dials a predefined number that routes to InformaCast either through a route pattern and SIP trunk or through a CTI route point 21. InformaCast maps the called number to a recipient group of phones 40. InformaCast then acts as the multicast source and instructs each phone in the recipient group to join the multicast stream by sending an HTTP XSI command 60.

Multicast routing must be enabled between subnets that host recipient phones, and a Cisco technote mentions GRE tunnels as an option to carry multicast across a WAN 26. Alternatively, a Singlewire Paging Gateway converts the unicast audio stream of an InformaCast broadcast into local multicast so that multicast does not need to be routed across the WAN 24. Under Singlewire's 2018 guidance, InformaCast Fusion requires at least 1 on-premises Fusion server, which provides Distributed Activation and Survivable Remote Site Notification that a Paging Gateway does not provide 22.

IPv4 addresses 239.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255 define the administratively scoped multicast space, and 239.192.0.0/14 forms the Organization Local Scope from which private ranges should be allocated 41. WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that because the InformaCast default multicast address 239.0.1.2 falls in the administratively scoped 239/8 range but outside the RFC 2365 Organization Local Scope, sites with scoped multicast boundaries may need to modify the InformaCast multicast address range 19.

Provisioning and administration

The InformaCast Virtual Appliance described in the CUCM 15 guide is deployed on VMware ESXi, with supported ESXi versions specified in the Singlewire compatibility matrix under Server Platforms 35. Phone models used with InformaCast must also appear in the Singlewire compatibility matrix 34.

Unified CM services activated for the integration include Cisco CallManager, Cisco CTI Manager, Cisco AXL Web Service, and Cisco CallManager SNMP Service 42. The CUCM 15 Basic Paging task flow runs in this order: enable SNMP on all nodes, create the SNMP community string, configure region and device pool, configure partition and CSS, create CTI ports, configure an AXL access control group, create the application user, enable phone web access, and set the authentication URL 16. The CUCM 15 Basic Paging task flow creates an SNMP community string named ICVA 44. The InformaCast region on Unified CM is configured for the G.711 codec 23. The CUCM 15 Basic Paging task flow requires at least two CTI ports 27. Phone Web Access must be enabled, at enterprise, profile or device level, so InformaCast can control phones over HTTP 33. The phone authentication URL and secure authentication URL must both be set to the same HTTP URL pointing to InformaCast 11.

InformaCast discovers phones via SNMP on Unified CM nodes; if SNMP is unreachable on all CallManager nodes over UDP 161 or due to DNS failures, phones cannot be discovered and recipient groups cannot be built 45.

Unified CM Administration has an Emergency Notifications Paging wizard at Advanced Features > Emergency Notifications Paging for connecting to an InformaCast server 52. When run, the Emergency Notifications Paging wizard activates SNMP on all cluster nodes, activates the CTI Manager service, and creates the region, device pool, route group and a SIP trunk to InformaCast 51. The Emergency Notifications Paging wizard creates an application user with the AXL role 50.

For CUCM 15 Advanced Notification, the task flow requires installing the InformaCast Virtual Appliance, configuring the connection using the Emergency Notifications Paging wizard, configuring the panic button, and setting up CallAware emergency call alerting 6. The wizard's panic button is a speed dial assigned to selected phones that triggers a chosen pre-recorded message to designated recipient phones 32. CallAware emergency call alerting is configured by selecting a monitored route pattern, such as 911, and defining the recipient phones 17.

Webex Calling and multiplatform endpoints

Singlewire announced its InformaCast integration with Cisco Webex Calling on 19 October 2021 56. In the United States, Singlewire markets 911 alerting with Webex Calling, where InformaCast notifies designated personnel when 911 is dialed 54. InformaCast is listed on Webex App Hub for both Webex Calling and Webex Messaging, supporting notification delivery into Webex spaces, and is offered under InformaCast Fusion as a paid subscription based on user count 57​9.

Separately, Webex Calling provides native group paging that sends a one-way page to up to 75 target users, workspaces, or virtual lines 58. Native Webex Calling paging works only on primary devices, requires each member to have at least 1 registered device, does not auto-answer pages to targets already on a call, and is blocked by Do Not Disturb on the target 59​55.

For Cisco multiplatform (MPP) conference phones, a device can join up to 10 multicast paging groups 29. All phones in a group must subscribe to the same multicast address, port, and multicast number 29. MPP paging groups are defined using a Group Paging Script parameter (pggrp=address:port with name, num, listen, pri, and codec options) and support G711u (default), G711a, G722, and G729 30.

Diagnosing issues and support scope

Under an OEM agreement with Singlewire, Cisco TAC supports InformaCast from version 8.3 with CUCM 8.5 and later 48. However, Basic Paging is the only InformaCast mode Cisco TAC supports; other features require support directly from Singlewire 47. For the CUCM 12.x Emergency Notification feature, Cisco TAC troubleshoots only the wizard portion 49.

When troubleshooting common failures:

  • If a caller hears a busy signal when dialing the paging extension, it is typically caused by a calling search space or partition misconfiguration 18.
  • If phones or speakers activate for a broadcast but play no audio, Cisco points to multicast network issues as the likely cause 31.
