Migrating from Mitel MiVoice

Field reports suggest that MiVoice Connect End of New System Sales was July 6, 2024 3. On February 27, 2025, Zoom and Mitel said Zoom Workplace integration was available for OpenScape Voice and OpenScape 4000, with other Mitel platforms to follow 26. Planning a migration involves assessing hardware lifecycles, SIP trunk edge controls via MiVoice Border Gateway (MBG), and hybrid interworking architectures 9​19.

Platform Lifecycles and Milestones

Field reports suggest that Mitel channel partners reported MiVoice Connect End of New System Sales on July 6, 2024 3. In the field, channel partners also reported that End of Add-on Sales for MiVoice Connect, meaning no add-on software licences to existing systems, occurred on December 31, 2024 1. In the field, one Mitel channel partner reports that MiVoice Connect End of Design and Development was December 31, 2025, after which no further OS updates, patches, or security updates are provided 2. Furthermore, field reports suggest that a Mitel channel partner reports MiVoice Connect RMA support and hardware warranty conclude on December 31, 2028 4. WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that if partner-reported end-of-design dates are correct, MiVoice Connect systems running on 2026-09-25 no longer receive vendor security updates, although Mitel technical support continues until 2029 6.

For MiVoice Office 250, field reports suggest partner-reported lifecycle milestones including End of New System Sales on January 31, 2022, End of Add-on Sales on June 30, 2022, and End of Software Design on January 31, 2023 18. Field reports suggest that MiVoice Office 250 End of Technical Support was June 30, 2026 16. WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that on 2026-09-25, a MiVoice Office 250 platform is probably past Mitel's end of technical support based on partner-reported dates 17. For the MiVoice Office Application Suite, field reports suggest that channel partners report End of Technical Support is June 30, 2027, a year after the MiVoice Office 250 platform 15.

Hybrid Interworking and Zoom Phone System Integration

On February 27, 2025, Zoom and Mitel stated that Zoom Workplace integration was available for OpenScape Voice and OpenScape 4000, with MiVoice Business to follow within weeks and MiVoice 5000 and MX-ONE before the end of 2025 26. For device transitions, Zoom and Mitel stated that OpenScape CP and Mitel 6900 Series devices are Zoom Phone certified, allowing customers moving fully to Zoom Phone to bring them along 25.

Under the Zoom Phone System Integration (PSI), call control and PSTN routing remain on the Mitel PBX, and calls do not route through Zoom's cloud 20. Zoom outlines a hybrid deployment model in which Zoom Phone users and Mitel PSI users run side by side and can dial each other's extensions across a Bring Your Own PBX (BYOP) trunk 19.

Licensing requirements for Zoom PSI include:

• Mitel requirements: a Mitel ZoomPSI or Hybrid licence, plus 2 Teleworker licences per user, 1 for desktop and 1 for mobile 21.
• Zoom requirements: an active Zoom Phone account and a supported Zoom licence for each PSI user, such as Zoom Workplace Business/Business+, Essentials/Enterprise tiers, legacy meeting licences, or a plan with Zoom Phone Pro 24.

Zoom PSI for Mitel does not support SMS, presence for desk-phone-only users, the Network Connectivity Tool, or Zoom AI calling features such as voicemail transcription and call summaries 23.

Border Gateway Trunking

MiVoice Border Gateway (MBG) SIP trunking provides external SIP connectivity for a Mitel ICP by anchoring media and shielding the call server from malformed messages, unauthorized access, and attacks 9.

Key operational parameters for MBG SIP trunks include:

• MBG does not translate SIP transport protocols on SIP trunks, requiring both sides of the trunk to use matching transport (UDP, TCP, or TLS) 7.
• When an MBG SIP trunk uses TLS, port 5061 must be used 10.
• Routing rules in MBG SIP trunk setup send incoming trunk calls based on the number dialled rather than the SIP username 8.

MiVoice Business Migration Tool

The MiVoice Business Migration Tool is an in-platform upgrade utility rather than a cross-vendor export tool; its media-replacement procedure upgrades a MiVoice Business system from a pre-9.0 release to Release 9.1 using a new factory drive with pre-installed software 14. A pre-migration audit must be executed on every MiVoice Business system prior to migration to verify that the database is compatible with Release 9.0 or later, as omitting it risks fallback to a default database 11.

For connection and administration, the MiVoice Business Migration Tool connects by IP address or FQDN using a system-level login, will not connect with the default password, and handles up to 10 MiVoice Business systems in one instance 13. On AX controllers, administrators must back up voicemail messages in /vmail/d/vm/msg and /vmail/d/vm/grp over FTP to a PC before initiating a media-replacement migration 12.
