Webex Cloud-Connected UC is a suite of Webex cloud services providing a single global view in Control Hub to manage on-premises UC and Unified CM Cloud deployments 20. The architecture operates through plugins installed directly on individual Unified CM applications that transmit telemetry data to the Webex cloud 49.

Architecture and Deployment

Cloud-Connected UC manages multiple clusters across both on-premises Unified CM and Unified CM Cloud environments 27. Initial setup begins in Control Hub under Services > Connected UC, where the Get Started control remains enabled until an administrator creates an agent file and a cluster group 19. Cluster groups provide a logical, folder-like structure to group clusters for simplified administration, and clusters are assigned to these groups once the servers establish connectivity 18. Every cluster onboarded to the service must possess a unique PKID 56.

Onboarding requires generating an Agent COP file within Control Hub and installing it across all nodes of each connected cluster, including Unified CM, IM and Presence Service, Cisco Unity Connection, or Cisco Emergency Responder 1. Installing the Agent COP file does not require a server or cluster reboot 37. Once installed, the telemetry Agent contacts the Webex cloud via configured proxies to download and install the telemetry module 2. Node statuses across onboarded Unified CM clusters can then be monitored within the Telemetry Module Inventory view 48.

The telemetry module software updates automatically at the cluster level to ensure all nodes run an identical version 26. Administrators can configure a specific module upgrade schedule per cluster or rely on the default time of 11 a.m. UTC 57. Because ongoing provisioning can leave error states, administrators should avoid provisioning during scheduled module upgrades and verify cluster upgrade completion prior to retrying 58. If an administrator disables the telemetry service on a node, all cloud operations—including automatic module upgrades—cease on that node 21.

System and Network Requirements

The on-premises telemetry agent footprint consumes approximately 345 MB RAM, 12 percent CPU, and 155 MB disk space for installation, alongside 20 to 100 MB of buffering space 3. For Unified CM clusters, the CDR Enabled Flag and the CDR Log Calls with Zero Duration Flag service parameters must both be set to True on cluster nodes 9. In addition, NTP synchronization is mandatory, and both the Cisco CDR Repository Manager and Cisco CDR Agent services must run actively 39. The service does not support FIPS-enabled Unified CM, IM and Presence Service, or Cisco Unity Connection deployments 36.

Network traffic requires outbound-only HTTPS on port 443 to the cloud 32. Firewalls must permit outbound connections to *.ucmgmt.cisco.com, *.webex.com, and *.wbx2.com 30. Connections utilize TLS 1.2 or TLS 1.3 34. Agents validate the cloud connection against the Amazon Root CA 1 certificate, and OCSP stapling is not offered 28. SSL inspection must be disabled along the path between the UC applications and the cloud 31. Network paths must permit WebSocket traffic 35, and Cisco recommends a minimum network bandwidth of 2 Mbps for larger clusters 29. Unauthenticated HTTP proxies and authenticated proxies using Basic or Digest authentication are supported 33.

Services and Operations

Cloud-Connected UC features are managed per cluster on the Service Management page in Control Hub, which toggles Analytics, Certificate Management, Operational Metrics, Borderless CTI, and Deployment Insights 43.

Certificate Management

Certificate Management centrally administers certificates for Unified CM, IM and Presence Service, Cisco Unity Connection, and Cisco Emergency Responder clusters directly from Control Hub 14. The Certificate Management service must be enabled for a specific cluster on the Service Management page before its certificates can be modified 11. Available operations include generating CSRs, uploading, renewing, downloading, replacing, removing, and distributing certificates across clusters, as well as applying certificate profiles 13. All trust-related certificate operations target only the publisher node, while CAPF and IPsec operations on subscriber nodes cannot be performed through Control Hub 15.

Certificate validity is fixed at 5 years on release 11.5x and 12.5x clusters, whereas release 14 and later allows administrators to define validity between 5 and 20 years 16. Cisco Emergency Responder clusters do not support distributing or replacing certificates via Certificate Management, and tomcat-ECDSA certificates are not supported on Emergency Responder release 12.5 or 14 clusters 10. Automated certificate expiration notifications can be scheduled to begin 30 to 365 days ahead of expiration, repeat at intervals of 1 to 30 days, and target up to 25 email recipients 12.

Analytics and Operations Dashboards

The Analytics dashboard organizes metrics into Service Experience, Asset Usage, Traffic Analysis, Capacity Analysis, and Mobile and Remote Access dashboards 4. Chart views default to the last 30 days, can be filtered across yesterday, 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, or 12 months, and present all timestamps in GMT 6. Service Experience call quality grading relies on CMRs delivering Severely Concealed Seconds values, with both CDRs and CMRs collected from Unified CM 5.

The Operations Dashboard provides a web-based RTMT interface supporting Unified CM, IM and Presence Service, and Unity Connection release 11.5 SU9 and later, including 12.5 and 14 and later 59. Accessing the Operations Dashboard requires activating the Operational Metrics service on the Service Management page, alongside an active Cisco AMC service running on at least one cluster node 40. Call-signaling troubleshooting in Cloud-Connected UC requires Operational Metrics, a deployed Webex Serviceability Connector with every node onboarded to both, and detailed SIP call processing traces 44.

Troubleshooting and Node Maintenance

When a node reflects an offline status, administrators should verify proxy configurations using utils ucmgmt proxy and inspect cloud_agent_startup.log and cloud_agent.log located in /var/log/active/ucmgmt 53. Once a new proxy is configured, the telemetry module requires approximately 1.5 hours to activate the proxy path and return the node to an online state 54. Within Control Hub node status monitoring, a status of "No Agent Running" is resolved by installing the Agent Install file, whereas an "Installation Failed" status points to an upgrade or module installation failure requiring escalation to Cisco TAC 55.

On the CLI, utils ucmgmt agent status reports the active agent version, and utils ucmgmt agent restart forces an agent self-update 50. The first 8 digits of the telemetry module version indicate its publish date; a release date older than 4 to 6 months suggests automated background updates are failing 51. Connectivity validation tests reachability to gw.telemetry.ucmgmt.cisco.com and telemetry-mgmt.na.ucmgmt.cisco.com for North American deployments, or gw.telemetry-eu.ucmgmt.cisco.com and telemetry-mgmt.eu.ucmgmt.cisco.com for European deployments, over outbound port 443 52.

Government Deployment

Cloud-Connected UC for Government restricts scope to Directory Service and Microsoft Teams integration only 24. It requires Unified CM 15SU2 or later and communicates over the domains *.gov.ciscospark.com and *.gov.wbx2.com 24.

Subscriptions and Release History

Cloud-Connected UC is ordered via the Cisco Collaboration Flex Plan Ordering Guide, and customers subscribe to UC management services within Control Hub 41. As of February 2022 Cisco stated Cloud-Connected UC was included at no additional charge for Collaboration Flex Plan customers 22, and the 2022 FAQ stated that Flex 3.0 offers Cloud-Connected UC as a standalone subscription requiring no other service 23.

The vendor's What's New documentation for Cloud-Connected UC was updated in November 2024, with post-2022 entries covering Webex App and Teams integration capabilities rather than agent, certificate, or upgrade mechanics 60.
