Enrolment storage and deletion for Cisco face recognition
Verified 2026-09-05 · 12 claims · sources tier 2 · 1 disputed
An administrator enables face recognition for an organisation in Control Hub under organisation settings and can invite users to enrol through an email template 1. Cisco's face recognition transparency note states that when an organisation enables the feature, end users individually must opt in to use it 7.
Enrolment and deletion procedures
A user enrols through their profile on the Webex user site by granting camera permission and taking a photo 12. To manage their enrolment, a user can return to their profile to edit their information or delete their photos, and deleting the data stops their name label from appearing in meetings and calls 11. The deletion instructions use two different nouns in the same passage, instructing a user to delete their photos while describing the effect of deleting their data, and nothing states whether the derived vector is removed 2.
Neither the transparency note nor any of the three product articles states where a face representation is stored or for how long 9. In its discussion of model training data, the face recognition note states only that it uses internally collected Cisco volunteer videos, without consent, permission, or licence language, whereas the gesture recognition note states its training data came from Cisco employees with explicit consent 4.
Device support and controls
Five device families render name labels while only three send them, so some devices display a label they cannot originate 3. The device toggle governs whether a device sends name labels rather than whether it displays them, and the toggle returns to its previous state after the call ends 10.
Feature discontinuation and documentation currency
Cisco states that effective 30 April 2026 it discontinues the name labels feature for shared devices and meeting rooms, with no replacement feature planned 5. The sign-up article was last updated on 19 June 2026, which is after the end of support date it carries, and it still describes the discontinuation in the future tense with the full enrolment flow intact 8. Sources disagree on the status across documents: the face recognition transparency note describes name labels as a current capability and does not mention the end of support 6.
