Porting numbers to Zoom Phone

Verified 2026-10-14 · 59 sources · tier 1–3

Also known as Zoom Phone port-in, Zoom Phone project port.

A self-service local port to Zoom Phone in the US, Canada or Puerto Rico is started in the Zoom web portal 44 46. Project ports, toll-free ports, BYOC-to-native ports and EMEA ports are instead requested through Zoom Support 48 55 8 20. Zoom requires porting information to match the losing carrier's Customer Service Record exactly, and Zoom's estimated lead times range from about 4 business days for most US and Canada wireless ports to about 10 to 12 weeks in APAC 14 58 5.

Prerequisites

To request a US, Canada or Puerto Rico port, the admin needs Number Management permissions and completed Zoom Phone initial setup 46. The account also needs a Zoom Workplace licence with Phone, a standalone Zoom Phone calling plan, or a Zoom Contact Center licence 46. Zoom advises having a Zoom Phone licence available for each number before starting a port 34.

Zoom's public portability checker validates only US and Canada local numbers 12. It does not validate toll-free numbers, and the checker page states that all toll-free numbers are portable 12.

Alarm monitoring on a number being ported can cause the Zoom port to be rejected until that service is moved or cancelled 2. If a ported number will send SMS, Zoom advises getting its 10DLC campaign approved before the port date to reduce downtime; for the registration process, see Business texting and 10DLC registration 1.

Requesting a self-service port (US, Canada, Puerto Rico)

  • Open the Zoom web portal. In the old experience, go to Number Management > Phone Numbers. In the new experience, go to Admin Center > Product configuration > Numbers > Phone Numbers 44.
  • Click Add Number, then Port Number 44.
  • Optionally, name an existing Zoom Phone number for the ported number to replace 53. This swap uses no additional licence, and the swapped-out number is removed from the account 53.
  • Complete the online Letter of Agency (LOA) from a losing-carrier invoice 35. The LOA requires the billing telephone number, company name, authorised person, service address and contact information 35.
  • Enter the requested date, or leave it blank 13. If no date is given, Zoom requests the earliest possible date 13.

On the online LOA, the losing-carrier account number and PIN are optional fields 59. However, both are required for all wireless ports and for some VoIP providers 59. Zoom also requires the name of the losing provider to be listed on the porting LOA 36.

After submission, Zoom sends the LOA to the losing provider for validation 40. Once the LOA is accepted, the NPAC works with Zoom Phone and the losing provider to activate the pending US or Canada port 40.

To see the confirmed porting date (FOC), go to Number Management > Phone Numbers > Related Features and hover over FOC in Port History 29.

Documents for other port types

  • Troubleshooting guidance: Zoom's porting troubleshooting guide says to upload a bill dated within the last 45 days 6. It notes that some regions require 30 days or 3 months 6.
  • Project ports (US, Canada, Puerto Rico): Submit a Zoom Support request with type Zoom Phone Number Porting, issue New Number Port and quantity 100+ 48. Include a hand-signed LOA, a completed Project Porting Sheet and a recent bill, ideally dated within the last 30 days 48.
  • Toll-free ports (US, Canada): These ports are not self-service in the portal 55. Request them through Zoom Support with a completed Toll-Free LOA and an invoice that shows the toll-free numbers and is dated within the last 30 days; see also Toll-free numbering and RespOrg 55.
  • BYOC-to-native ports: Request these through Zoom Support with "BYOC to Native Port" in the description 8. Include a hand-signed LOA, a BYOC Porting Sheet and a phone bill dated within the last 3 months 8. These ports also require a Zoom Workplace licence with Phone or Contact Center included, or a standalone Zoom Phone or Contact Center calling plan, separate from the BYOC licence 9.
  • EMEA ports: Submit through a Zoom Support request with an LOA signed and dated within the last 3 months and a phone bill dated within the last 3 months 20.
  • APAC ports: Provide a signed LOA (hand or digital signature) and a telephone bill for the porting numbers dated within the last 30 days 4.

In a project port, number swaps are like-for-like, and the main company number cannot be swapped out 37. To replace a main line, the request must say so; the number is then uploaded as a normal number and swapped after porting 37.

A losing provider may allow a DDI block (sequential numbers with no gaps) to be ported only as a whole 16. Once ported, those numbers must be kept as a block in the Zoom Phone account 16.

Timelines and activation windows

Port type or region Zoom's estimated lead time
US and Canada wireless About 4 business days for most ports 58
US and Canada landline, major providers About 7 business days 57
US and Canada landline, smaller providers including Canadian providers 10 to 21 business days 57
North American project port 3 to 4 weeks, depending on complexity 47
UK About 30 days 19
South Africa About 45 days 19
Rest of EMEA 30 to 60 days 19
All APAC regions About 10 to 12 weeks 5
Latin America Up to 60 days 30

Zoom places US and Canada standard ports within an overall range of 4 to 21 days 57. A Zoom product-marketing blog published 9 June 2026 gives different figures 7. It says simple domestic ports typically take 5 to 10 business days after documentation is validated, and complex ports take several weeks 7.

WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that Zoom's US and Canada estimates of 4 to 21 days are much longer than the one-business-day federal simple-port interval 26. We infer that most of Zoom's quoted time goes to LOA validation, carrier response and scheduling, or to non-simple ports, rather than to the regulated activation interval itself 26.

US and Canada ports activate at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time, Monday to Friday excluding local holidays, and the port time cannot be changed 56. Because the activation time is fixed, Zoom advises pre-assigning ported numbers to users or other targets before the port date 45.

Zoom does not support port activation outside its porting windows 39. Ports run Monday to Friday excluding local holidays, with no evening or weekend ports 39. Zoom also does not support expedited porting, because port dates depend on carrier availability and local regulation 38.

The customer-requested date is a best-effort preference, not a guarantee 13. We infer that a Zoom Phone go-live date is best set from the FOC rather than from the customer-requested date 15. This is inferred because the requested date is best effort, the activation time is fixed, and rescheduling restarts the order 15.

Regional differences

Zoom lists the following EMEA activation times, with windows lasting up to 3 hours and downtime expected 18:

  • UK: 9:00 a.m. local 18
  • Ireland: 11:00 a.m. 18
  • Germany: 6:00 to 8:00 a.m. 18
  • Italy: 6:00 a.m. 18

In EMEA, number portability is checked only after the port order is submitted, and providers may then report numbers as non-portable 22.

Zoom lists the following APAC port windows 3:

  • Singapore: 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. local 3
  • Australia: 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. for simple (CAT-A) ports 3
  • New Zealand: 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. 3
  • Japan: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 3

Zoom lists porting as not yet supported in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Panama, although new numbers can be ordered there 31.

Rejections, cancellations and changes

Zoom lists mismatches in name, address, account number and BTN against the losing carrier's Customer Service Record as common rejection causes 14. For more on diagnosing these, see Troubleshooting number port rejections 14.

A rejected self-service port shows the status Exception in Port History 23. To resolve it, open the order, note the rejection reason, click Resolve Issue, edit the LOA and resubmit 23. After resubmission, Zoom says to allow 3 to 5 business days for the losing carrier to respond 51.

For a partial port, where the main billing number stays with the old provider, Zoom requires the request type to be updated and a new main billing number to be provided 42.

Zoom cancels a port request in the following cases 11 10:

  • Zoom receives no response or update from the customer within 15 business days 11.
  • The order's numbers belong to multiple underlying providers, or come from multiple locations or addresses; Zoom cancels these orders automatically 10.

Zoom limits changes to port orders 41 49 54:

  • Adding or removing numbers: Numbers cannot be added to or removed from an open port order 41. The order must be cancelled and resubmitted, which restarts the process 41.
  • Rescheduling: Rescheduling requires withdrawing and resubmitting the order, which restarts the process, and the new date is best effort 49.
  • Toll-free dates: Zoom states that toll-free port dates usually cannot be changed once the FOC has been provided 54.

After cutover

Zoom instructs customers not to cancel service with the losing provider until Zoom confirms the transfer 17. Zoom does not cancel that service on the customer's behalf 17.

Zoom uses the term "residual translations" for calls that still route to the old system after porting 50. Zoom states that losing carriers have 24 hours to remove ported numbers from their network; see also Troubleshooting calls that fail to ported numbers after cutover 50.

Zoom may attempt to reverse (snap back) a completed port, but success depends on the losing carrier 52. If the reversal is denied, a new number-portability process with the old provider is required 52.

Applicability

Applies to: Zoom Phone. Deployments: multi-tenant. Sources checked 2026-10-14. Self-service portal porting, as described in the claims, covers US, Canada and Puerto Rico local numbers 46 44. US and Canada toll-free ports are excluded from self-service and go through Zoom Support 55. Porting is not yet supported in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Panama 31.

What remains uncertain
