Source note · Setting up SIPREC forking on CUBE for call recording

Unified CM selects the gateway as recording source only when Gateway Preferred is set, the media is unsecure RTP and a gateway is in the call path; with secure SRTP media, or with Phone Preferred, it selects the phone.
