Cisco states that Cisco phones send a follow-up REGISTER refresh every 1 to 2 minutes and that a network implementing NAT or stateful packet inspection should set a connection timeout of at least 30 minutes, which it says allows reliable connectivity while reducing the battery consumption of mobile devices.
