# What each Webex Calling licence type includes

The Webex Calling feature matrix compares 79 features against 4 licence types[^58]. The matrix lists these licences in the column order Professional (User), Professional (Workspace), Standard, and Workspace[^25].

## Feature Matrix Entitlements

Seventeen of the 79 feature rows split the 4 licence types 2 against 2, forming the boundaries on which licence choices turn[^57]. Single number reach, visual voicemail, Microsoft Teams integration, user portals, call block, directed call pickup, and hoteling guest are marked as available for Professional (User) and Standard, and unavailable for both workspace licence types[^44]. Soft clients are available for Professional (User), available for Standard only if the user uses soft clients, and unavailable for both workspace types[^36].

Shared lines provide an entitlement of 35 on both Professional licence types, but are marked unavailable for Standard and Workspace[^35]. Virtual lines are likewise supported on both Professional licence types and excluded from Standard and Workspace[^45]. In practice, a virtual line can be assigned only to users and workspaces holding a Webex Calling Professional licence[^47].

Voicemail and call recording are marked as available for Professional (User), Professional (Workspace), and Standard, but unavailable for the Workspace licence[^49][^9]. Conversely, the Workspace licence includes call queue functionality, whereas the Standard licence does not[^60].

In the field, 15 cells of the feature matrix carry a dollar symbol instead of a yes or no value, and the article never defines it[^53]. WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that the dollar sign most likely marks a separately purchased add-on rather than an included entitlement[^10]. Specifically:
* Attendant Console carries a dollar sign for Professional (User) and is unavailable for the other 3 licence types[^3]. A user requires a Webex Calling Professional licence to use Webex Attendant Console, which requires its own add-on licence[^1].
* Business texting displays a dollar sign for Professional (User) and Standard, but is unavailable for both workspace licences[^4].
* Digital fax messaging and multicast alerts show a dollar sign across all 4 licence columns, including the Workspace licence[^15].

## Device and Endpoint Rules

A Standard-licensed user can have either a physical device or all soft clients, but not both[^37]. The Workspace licence is designed for shared use and common area locations, and it is limited to a single device[^51].

A Professional (Workspace) licence supports device endpoints only and allows up to 5 assigned devices sharing the workspace's primary line[^28]. Even with 5 assigned devices, a Professional workspace's primary line can be shared with up to 30 additional multiline endpoints[^27]. In the field, 3 capacity figures for a Professional workspace sit within a paragraph of each other and are never related: up to 5 assigned devices, up to 30 additional multiline endpoints on the primary line, and a shared lines entitlement of 35[^59].

## Buying Models and Additional Licences

The Cisco Collaboration Flex Plan 3.0 data sheet provides Professional, Standard, and Workspace as named-user licence tiers, offering Standard for cloud deployments only[^20]. Under a Flex Plan 3.0 Enterprise Agreement, Workspace licences are included for 50 percent of the knowledge worker count[^18]. A Flex Plan 3.0 Enterprise Agreement requires a minimum of 250 knowledge workers[^17]. However, the features by licence article never mentions a SKU, an order, or a purchase, with each of those words occurring 0 times[^52].

Route List Calls serves as an add-on licence for organisations running an on-premises private branch exchange, such as CUCM, that require Cloud Connected PSTN service[^56][^32]. The maximum Route List Calls volume for an individual subscription is 10000 calls[^56][^31]. During a trial, an organisation receives 10 concurrent Route List Calls licences[^56][^34].

A Webex Calling Customer Assist licence includes a Webex Calling Professional licence[^5]. A user cannot hold both a Webex Calling Standard licence and a Customer Assist licence simultaneously[^6].

## Licence Transitions

The only licence downgrade the features article documents is from Professional to Standard, which it states loses all provisioning and configuration information for all affected users[^55][^12].

Upgrading a workspace to a Professional workspace licence preserves the workspace's existing settings and adds access to more Calling features[^42]. Once upgraded to a Professional workspace licence, a workspace cannot be downgraded to a common area workspace licence[^43]. Furthermore, if Microsoft Teams Rooms is enabled for a workspace, the licence cannot be upgraded or downgraded between Basic and Webex Calling licences[^39].

When a user upgrades from Standard to Professional, clients and applications are assigned to the user automatically[^40]. Documentation warns that Calling services become unavailable for users running Webex Calling versions 44.3 or earlier[^38].

## Special Deployments and Government Exclusions

For Webex online customers, only the Professional (User) licence is supported, and workspaces are not supported[^26]. Professional (Workspace) licences are not applicable to Webex Calling Dedicated Instance[^29].

Webex for Government does not support call recording, call recording partner, Webex Go, Webex Go Mobile Operator, Attendant Console, business texting, or digital fax messaging[^21]. Webex for Government excludes 7 features as a flat list stated outside the matrix rather than as a column in it[^54]. WarmTransfer's reading of the sources is that to know what a licence includes in a Webex for Government tenant, the 7 government exclusions have to be subtracted from the commercial matrix by hand because the matrix has no government column[^22]. We infer that the government data sheet's statement that Standard excludes recording does not contradict the matrix's Y for Standard call recording, because the help article separately excludes call recording from Webex for Government for every licence[^23].
